A medium-sized shrub, initially upright and then irregularly spreading in shape with the passage of time. Its egg-shaped-to-elliptical, almostpurple leaves are from 7 to 8 cm long and turn yellowish to orange in autumn. It produces terminal panicles of reddish-yellow flowers up to 20 cm long in June and July.
