A cone-shaped-to-spreading, deciduous tree or shrub with egg-shaped-toovate, leaves ranging in colour from green to dark-green with lengths of from 10 to 12 cm , which become tinged with red and purple in autumn. In May and June it produces greenish-white and pure white flowers with diameters of between 8 to 9 cm and made up of 4 obovate bracts joined by a head measuring 0.5 to 1 cm in width. It prefers fresh and slightly acid soils. It doesn’t adapt to limy soils.
